History

Twenty years later, Mr. Smulekoff sold his Island Store to the city of Cedar Rapids for exactly the price he paid for it.  Cedar Rapids used the site as City Hall until Veteran's Memorial Coliseum was built in 1927.  Smulekoff moved to a building at First Street and Third Avenue SW, which now houses Wells Fargo Bank.
This location is where Smulekoff's sons, Abraham Lincoln (A.L.) and Leo joined the business after graduating from the Wharton School of Business in Philadelphia.
